November 18 - 22

Report Cards: Report cards will be coming home on this week. It's important to keep in mind a couple of things. First, if your child is not a "3", the goal is to get there by the end of 4th grade. Students develop at their own pace. Second, students will continue to get individualized and group intervention in the areas below a "3". Also, in math, and reading, there are ways to practice at home, which is probably necessary if the practice at school is not enough to master these goals. Students who are struggling with fractions need multiplication and division fluency. Please consider helping your child practice these facts to memory. In reading it's equally important for your child to read consistently with a book that is not too easy or too hard at his/her interest level. The research supports that if this happens at school and home, along with quality instruction at school, your child can become a lifelong reader. I look forward to continuing our work together!
Thanksgiving Lunch: Everyone is encouraged to dress up for our Thanksgiving lunch on Thursday. If your child will not be eating the hot lunch that day, please send in a cold lunch. This is such a special time to spend together and remember how thankful we are for such an amazing school and for each other!! Thanks to all the volunteers who will be serving us lunch!
EL: As shared at Back to School Night, we are piloting new ELA instructional materials in grades K-5. This resource offers a rigorous and balanced literacy approach for our learners, engaging students in reading, writing, listening and speaking. While our commitment to addressing essential ELA standards has not changed, the order and manner in which standards are assessed in this pilot may be different than in past years. As such, you may not see a reported measure for every ELA standard on your child’s report card. Please also refer to the comments provided, as well as ongoing communication and conferencing, regarding your child’s progress in ELA. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
All About Me!: Each week a student is the All About Me student. They have completed a poster in class and get to share special things about themselves each day. When it is your child's turn, I will send home a paper stating everything he or she needs. Felix is up this week!
